What: Maxim Rysanov with 12 Ensemble

When: Friday 5 October, 7:30-10pm

Where: BBC Radio 3

12 Ensemble performs a programme of Tansy Davies, Britten, Woolrich and Schubert, alongside violist Maxim Rysanov at St George’s in Bristol. Read our interview with 12 Ensemble here.

What: David Sawyer's The Skating Rink with the Garsington Opera and Chorus conducted by Garry Walker

When: Saturday 6 October, 6:30-9pm

Where: BBC Radio 3

David Sawyer's fourth opera is based on the novel by Chilean author Roberto Bolaño, and follows the mystery of a woman found dead on a skating rink. Garry Walker conducts the Garsington Opera and Chorus in this highly anticipated premiere performance.

What: Leonard Bernstein's Trouble in Tahiti

When: Sunday 7 October, 12:30-1:30pm

Where: Sky Arts

A film of Opera North’s critically acclaimed 2017 production of Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti at the Leeds Grand Theatre, in celebration of Bernstein’s centenary year. Directed by Matthew Eberhardt and conducted by Tobias Ringborg, the performance stars Canadian mezzo-soprano Wallis Giunta and Dutch baritone Quirijn de Lang.

What: Catriona Morison and Yuka Beppu live from Wigmore Hall

When: Monday 8 October, 1-2pm

Mezzo soprano Catriona Morison is accopmanied by pianist Yuka Beppu in a programme of German Lieder at Wigmore Hall, feauturing works by Brahms, Korngold and Mahler.

What: Joan Sutherland: Legends of Opera

Sky Arts takes a look at the extraordinary career of Australian coloratura soprano Joan Sutherland, spanning from the late 1950s through to the 1980s.

What: Julian Joseph's Tristan und Isolde

When: Tuesday 9 October, 3:30-10pm

Where: BBC Radio 3

Queen Elisabeth Hall plays host to a fresh take on the legend of Tristan und Isolde, written by composer and jazz pianist Julian Joseph. This thrilling fusion of jazz and classical music is set within a contemporary setting, and is sure to be one of the week's highlights.

What: Composer of the Week: Parry

When: Wednesday 10 October, 12-1pm

Donald Macleod continues his exploration of the life and music of Hubert Parry, as we mark the 100th anniversary of his death. You can listen to the Carice Singers perform his Songs of Farewell in the cover CD of our October issue.

What: Choral Evensong live from Gloucester Cathedral

When: Wednesday 10 October, 3:30-4:30pm

Choral evensong takes place at Gloucester Cathedral close to composer of the week Hubert Parry's home. The choir will be conducted by the cathedral's director of music by Adrian Partington.

What: The Hallé conducted by Edward Gardner

When: Thursday 11 October, 7:30-10pm

Where: BBC Radio 3

Edward Gardner conducts the Hallé at Bridgewater Hall in performances of Richard Strauss's Also Sprach Zarathustra and Leoš Janáček's Glagolitic Mass. Soloists include soprano Sara Jakubiak, mezzo-soprano Felicity Palmer, tenor Stuart Skelton and bass James Platt.

What: Jess Gillam and the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Ben Gernon

When: Friday 12 October, 7-10pm
