Boughton House is hosting Handel at Boughton, a brand new exhibition celebrating the life of George Frideric Handel.

Following the exhibition’s launch event on Sunday 17 July, at the Northamptonshire country house, home to the Duke and Duchess of Buccleuch, visitors can learn about key events in the composer’s life and view a collection of artefacts, including sculptor Louis-Francois Roubiliac’s first model for Handel’s monument in Westminster Abbey and a 1720 harpsichord believed to belong to Handel himself.

The Duke of Buccleuch, whose ancestor the Duke of Montagu was the patron of Handel’s Italian opera company, says that the exhibition has uncovered some wonderful stories, from the composer’s early life in Rome to his Music for the Royal Fireworks that the Duke of Montagu commissioned. 'The exhibition has been a labour of love for all those involved in bringing it to life, and it looks set to be a real highlight of our summer events programme at the Estate,' he says. 'I hope Boughton House enthrals our visitors this summer whether they are Handel enthusiasts or visiting the Estate to enjoy its wider treasures and beautiful gardens.'
