The Barber of Seville - Opera Lyrica

The Barber of Seville - Opera Lyrica

Wednesday, May 8, 2013 - 19:30

Join Opera Lyrica for three nights of farce and fun in Oxford, as we unveil our newest production of Rossini's classic masterpiece. Il Barbiere di Siviglia may be one of the most performed operas in the world, but never quite like this...

Set as a traditional commedia dell'arte, this production uses original commedia characters and costumes to recreate a world which has long since disappeared, but which tells a timeless story. Beaumarchais himself wrote the play of Le Barbier de Séville with these characters in mind, and their humour perfectly suits this traditional, simple setting. It allows our cast of young professionals to explore the shapes and patter of these personalities, normally better associated with the theatre. The atmosphere of St Peter's College Chapel allows us to create the feeling of an ad-hoc, temporary theatre, but our fantastic cast and orchestra ensure nothing is left to chance!

Reservations for tickets may be made from this page of the Opera Lyrica website.

Wednesday 8th, Friday 10th, and Saturday 11th May at 7.30pm with a pre-performance talk at 6.30 on the Saturday.
