Enigma - Elgar and Shostakovich | Stockport Symphony Orchestra

Enigma - Elgar and Shostakovich | Stockport Symphony Orchestra

Saturday, June 15, 2019 - 19:30

The Enigma Variations are, along with the cello concerto, Elgar’s most played of compositions and scarcely need introducing. Their consistent popularity is well earned. For this evening’s concert we have paired them with another well-loved work, the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No 2 with that slow movement! Ukrainian soloist Slava Sidorenko and Portuguese conductor, Diogo Costa are sure to impress. Oh yes, and we have one another thing in store for you with an overture by Portuguese composer, Joly Braga Santos. We think you will be surprised at what we guess will be the liveliest and most tuneful overture you have never heard of.
