Ex Cathedra | Marie Fel: Rameau's Muse

Ex Cathedra | Marie Fel: Rameau's Muse

Sunday, May 12, 2013 - 19:30

Marie Fel was a diva of the 18th century. She was famous across Paris for her unmatched artistry and unconventional lifestyle. Her life was entwined with the principal characters at the court of Louis XV: Voltaire, Casanova, Rousseau, Rameau, and even the King. Voltaire called her an "adorable nightingale", whilst Casanova blushed when told that she had three children by three different fathers. For Rameau, she was a muse. A specially-commissioned narration tells Marie Fel's remarkable story, placing the glorious music by Lully, Lalande and Rameau into the context of life during the French Baroque era.

This concert is also included in the Birmingham International Concert Season.
