Francesco Mariani - Dances and Elegies for Classical Guitar

Saturday, December 9, 2017 - 19:30

Francesco Mariani presents an evening of dances and elegies for classical guitar - featuring his transcription of JS Bach's Chaconne, described by violinist Gidon Kremer as "a dance of life and death, inside the architecture of a cathedral" as well as the romantic works of Mertz and Schubert, the neuvo tango of Astor Piazzolla, the dissonance and contrast of Cuba's Leo Brouwer and the Brazillian masterpieces of Heitor Villa-Lobos.

Francesco has given concerts and workshops at the London Classical Guitar Festival, The Wirral Guitar Festival and the Royal Greenwich Guitar Festival. He teaches at the Purcell School for Young Musicians and directs the Stoke Newington Guitar Festival which returns for the fourth time in 2018.
