Kempston and Biddenham International Music Festival - Louis Demetruis Alvanis

Friday, May 11, 2012 - 19:30

London born pianist Louis Demetrius Alvanis performs throughout the UK, across Europe and in the USA every season. His playing is regularly transmitted across the major media, and his CD releases on the Meridian and Brilliant Classics labels have been critically acclaimed by the international music press. In London he has performed solo recitals in the major concert halls such as the Barbican Hall, Wigmore Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall.

He is a frequent guest at prestigious international festivals and concert series, amongst which Tarpon Performing Arts Series USA, Toyota Concert Hall Japan, National Concert Hall Celebrity Recital Series Dublin and Josef Suk Spring Festival in the Czech Republic, as well as open air recitals under the Chopin Monument at the Lazienki Park in Warsaw and at the Ostrogski Palace for the International Federation of Chopin Societies. Orchestral appearances encompass the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players, Polish Chamber Philharmonic, Bern Symphony Orchestra, Moldova National Philharmonic and Prague Philharmonic Collegium amongst many others.

Broadcasts of his performances include the BBC, ITV (Thames), US Radio, Polish Television and Radio, French Radio, Netherlands Radio, Swiss Television and Radio New Zealand, in addition to recitals at the Queen’s House, Greenwich and St John’s Smith Square recorded live by Classic FM. A documentary about his work has also been broadcast on the cable television network and more recently he appeared on the front cover of International Piano Magazine as featured artist. The Daily Telegraph critic described his playing as "a truly astonishing fire and force", whilst his recording of Brahms piano music was rated excellent for performance and sound by BBC Music Magazine: “Alvanis’s poetry and plasticity of line are much to be prized”. Following a Wigmore Hall performance of Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit the Evening Standard reviewer wrote "Amid shimmering right hand chords, Alvanis picked out essential melodic lines and daubed them onto the evening, like a graffiti artist out on a spraying spree. His touch was magical. The music swelled powerfully and the piano roared. It was one of Gaspard’s more eventful nights.....the sound is with me still.”
