The Lion of St Mark's - The Parley of Instruments

The Lion of St Mark's - The Parley of Instruments

Wednesday, August 7, 2013 - 20:00

In the 1620s and 30s Monteverdi and his colleagues at St Mark’s in Venice created a new type of church music for solo voices and violins, full of operatic virtuosity and expression. This programme also explores music in the same style by later composers at St Mark’s, including Heinrich Schütz, a visitor in the late 1620s, and Johann Rosenmüller, who worked there in the 1660s and 70s. It features the young soprano Philippa Hyde, one of the most exciting new voices to appear on the early music scene in recent years.
