Berlioz’s dazzling Symphonie fantastique is always spectacularly new – a fantastic autobiography in sound, full of the composer’s angels and demons, his love and life, his restlessness and the peace he imagined in the countryside. The concert opens with the exotic melody and elusive harmonies of Debussy’s dreamlike prelude.
