A recital by Ian Ball on the historic Georgian organ of St Mary de Lode Church

Thursday, November 22, 2012 - 19:30

Gloucester Music Society is delighted to welcome Ian Ball for a recital on the historic Georgian organ at St Mary de Lode church. The organ was built originally for the Roman Catholic Church of St. Mary, Moorfields, London, relocated to St. Nicholas, Gloucester in 1831, and then to St. Mary de Lode, Gloucester in 1972 and was extensively restored in 2003/2004 thanks to the efforts of the late Dr John Sanders, and whilst Ian Ball was Director of Music of Gloucester's City Benefice. Ian Ball has chosen a programme which not only demonstrates the remarkable versatility of the organ but also pays tribute to a number of English composers in line with Gloucester Music Society's themed season entitled "A Pageant of English Music".

"His strong rhythmic sense gives an air of authority to his playing." The Organ
