The Sussex Occasional Singers return to Highbrook Church for what is rapidly becoming an annual Autumn Shades concert. In an exciting and superbly varied programme,this concert includes the world premier of a work written by the Director to celebrate and commemorate the life of a much-loved local musician.

With an array of local talent on show, Sussex Occasional Singers present their third Autumn Colours concert in All Saints, Highbrook on Saturday, September 22nd, 2018 at 7:30.

Their programme highlights the wonderful baroque violin playing of George Clifford who leads Autumnal Strings in accompanying the choir in Gabrieli’s Jubilate Deo, Purcell’s Jehovah and Handel’s The King shall rejoice and will make their own solo and ensemble contributions. Sussex Occasional Singers give their first performance of Simon Austin’s Night Music, written to a Nick Nye text in memory of Nick Milner-Gulland and sing Brahms’s lovely a cappella motet, O Heiland reiss and both Claire Taylor and Mark Beesley will perform solo arias in a very varied and exciting evening of music making.

Sussex Occasional Singers has grown out of The Sussex Cantorum, which was a chamber choir active from 1992 until 2016 famed for the performance of a wide vocal repertoire ranging from baroque and early music through to 20th and 21st century English compositions. Cantorum have given world premieres of works by local composers including their founder and director, Simon Austin, notably in collaborations with the highly gifted writer, Nick Nye.

There will be a retiring collection to support St Catherine's Hospice, Crawley.
