This week your free download is from Schumann's First Violin Sonata, penned by the composer in the last years of his life. We've chosen the lively final movement, performed here by violinist Daniel Sepec and pianist Andreas Staier (Harmonia Mundi HMC 902048).
The piano you'll hear in this performance is an 1837 instrument made by Pierre Erard, the maker favoured by Liszt, while Sepec plays a violin made by Laurentius Storioni in Cremona in 1780. The CD also includes Schumann's rarely heard version of Bach's solo violin Chaconne.
