For this week’s free download we’re offering the first movement of Suite No. 2 in F major from Handel’s Eight Great Suites, performed by pianist Lisa Smirnova.

Handel’s Suites are still relatively unexplored, and this recording on the ECM label – which was the BBC Music Magazine Instrumental choice for January – is a convincing champion for the works.

Giving the disc five stars, our critic Paul Riley said: ‘Taken on their own terms, as Lisa Smirnova’s vivacious account of the Eight Great Suites reminds us, they’re a treasure trove of Handelian wit and humanity.’

I look forward to listening to this music. But where the heck can I read more about it?

If the idea is to promote the recording, then this site fails badly, as it does on many things.
