Composers' houses

For a summer stroll with a twist, head to Kensington in London this July. A quartet of singers from Opera Holland Park will be serenading promenaders as they're led on a guided walk taking in the homes of four British composers.

Britten's student digs on Cromwell Road, and Stanford's Horton Street residence are two of the stops; the house in Bedford Gardens which Bridge moved to in 1914 from Chiswick, and Parry's splendid Kensington Square abode are also on the route.

While walkers won't be able to venture beyond the front door of the houses, the Royal College of Music's Dr Peter Horton will be on hand to tell the stories of their owners and the music they composed.

The soundtrack to the walk, performed by four singers, features music by all four composers, including Britten's 'The Evening Primrose', Bridge's Shelley-inspired  'Music, when soft voices die' and Parry's 'Love is a sickness', a setting of words by Samuel Daniel.

When is it? 19 July, 3pm. The InTRANSIT festival which is hosting this walk runs until 1 August.
Where is it? Kensington and Chelsea, London
How much is it?: £2
