Victor Borge plays Liszt

Something for the weekend: the quotes, clips and links we like…

What they've said…

'Just for a while it's lovely not to have to get up and think "I've got to sing today".'
Baritone Sir Thomas Allen on directing Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro

On air

Pianist Lang Lang is Kirsty Young's castaway this Sunday on Desert Island Discs (Radio 4, 11.15am). The 28-year-old virtuoso talks about his meteoric rise to fame, playing at the Beijing Olympics and being mobbed on the streets in his home country of China.

On this day...

… in 1787, Mozart's Don Giovanni was premiered in Prague. Much anticipated, it's likely no one was keener to know how the opera began than the players themselves. Just the night before, Mozart was to be found, so the story goes, scribbling away at home, writing the Overture.

And finally…

… Victor Borge masters the art of the piano duet.
