Bruckner Symphony No. 7 – scherzo
Bruckner composed his seventh symphony between 1881 and 1883 and revised it in 1885 after the first performance. Sometimes referred to as the 'lyric', the seventh is unique in having enjoyed an immediately warm reception in Bruckner's lifetime and remains one of the best known of his symphonies.
‘There’s a pleasing clarity of texture, helped by the focused playing and excellently balanced recording,’ writes Martin Cotton in his review of this disc in the August issue of BBC Music Magazine.
‘In the scherzo, the ‘very fast’ tempo that Bruckner asks for is enhanced by a lift in the phrasing which makes the music dance.’
