This week’s free download, Sarasate’s Fantaisie-Caprice, comes from a disc of the composer’s music for violin and piano performed by violinist Tianwa Yang and pianist Markus Hadulla.
The recording, on the Naxos label, is one of an eight-disc series that the violinist has been working on.
Yang spoke to BBC Music Magazine about the series: ‘When I tell people I’m doing this complete Sarasate they’re always very surprised when I say it’s eight discs because they didn’t know there were so many pieces written by him – it surprised me too.’
The disc got five stars for performance in the May issue of BBC Music Magazine and our critic Julian Haylock wrote ‘In the Fantaisie-Caprice, Yang throws off merciless chains of double stops and finger-crippling arabesques with scintillating aplomb.’
