The Platinum Consort make their recording debut, on the Resonus Classics label, with this collection of music inspired by the Tenebrae tradition: from works by the 18th-century Italian composer Antonio Lotti to music by contemporary composer Richard Bates.
The track we’re offering for download this week is Lotti’s Crucifixus. The recording also includes music by Victoria, Purcell, Gesualdo and James MacMillan.
In the September issue of BBC Music Magazine, Terry Blain called the release an ‘interesting, sensitively sung programme, recorded with gleaming clarity’.
