This week we’re giving away a free track from a reconstructed opera by Vivaldi, Catone in Utica.

Soprano Roberta Mameli performs the aria ‘April le luci e mira’ with the ensemble Il Complesso Barocco and conductor Alan Curtis.

The opera was premiered in Verona in 1737 but only survives incomplete. This recording, on the Naïve label, has been reconstructed using music from other Vivaldi dramas and newly composed recitatives and arias.

The recording was given five stars in the December issue of BBC Music Magazine and our critic Nicholas Anderson said: ‘In this latest instalment for Naïve’s ongoing Vivaldi Edition, the seemingly indefatigable Alan Curtis directs with liveliness and stylistic assurance, and the cast could hardly be bettered.’
