Our chamber recording choice for May was a disc of music by Brahms and Grieg, courtesy of the Hagen Quartet on the Myrios label. Today, we’re offering you the second movement from Grieg’s String Quartet in G minor: Romanza: Andantino – Allegro Agitato.
Writing in BBC Music Magazine, our critic Erik Levi gave the recording five stars and pointed out that the work is often dismissed as ‘over-scored and episodic’ but the Hagen Quartet’s account dispels such doubts.
