This week's free download is the Allegro from John Jones's Lesson VIII for Harpsichord. Though his name may not be so well recognised as 18th-century harpsichord composers with more exotic names, like George Frideric Handel, Jean-Philippe Rameau and Domenico Scarlatti, John Jones's music is irresistibly colourful and eclectic.

This recording, by Mitzi Meyerson, received a five-star review in the September issue of BBC Music Magazine. 'Meyerson brings improvisatory flair, expressive rhetorical gestures, and balletic grace and agility to this recording,' writes Kate Bolton-Porciatti, 'she varies timbre and texture to delightful effect.'
