This week’s free download is the first movement, Allegro moderato, of Mysliveček's Violin Concerto in A. It is performed by Collegium 1704, with Leila Schayegh as the featured soloist, under the baton of Václav Luks, and comes to us courtesy of the Accent label. The recording was awarded four stars for performance and five for recording in the July issue of BBC Music Magazine.

Josef Mysliveček, born in Prague in 1737, is predominantely renowned for his relationship with Mozart, who he worked with and learnt much from. His premature death has contributed to the slight disappearance of his music from the musical canon, but there is much to be enjoyed from his works.

'What makes this CD so admirable a Mysliveček display-case is the near-ideal stylistic balance achieved by the Czech period band', writes Max Loppert. 'On its own and accompanying the fine-grained (if perhaps small-scale) virtuosity of the Swiss baroque violinist Leila Schayegh.'
