Backstage at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World with Petroc Trelawny
We talk to the presenter about the standard of this year's competition, the atmosphere backstage and the competition's international reputation for discovering new talent
BBC Cardiff Singer of the World kicked off this week in Wales and we'll be reporting from the competition every day this week.
Yesterday was the first round of the main competition (there's a parallel song competition which began on Sunday 16 June) and the five hopefuls taking to the stage with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and conductor Jun Märkl were: South Korean bass Kihwan Sim, British soprano Katherine Broderick, Chinese tenor Yi Li, American mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton and Croatian bass-baritone Marko Mimica.
After the performance, staff writer Elizabeth Davis caught up with Petroc Trelawny, who's presenting the competition on BBC Four, to talk about this year's competition.
Tune in to BBC Four this evening at 7.30pm to watch highlights from the round and to find out which singer won. And head to the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World website for more details about radio and television coverage.
