Five fantastic performances by the outstanding British pianist
At just 22 years old, pianist Benjamin Grosvenor has released four solo recordings and made performance debuts at the Royal Festival Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland. His most recent release, Dances, has received wide acclaim and was described by our critic Jeremy Siepmann as ‘exceptional’. Here we select five fantastic performances of Grosvenor's captured on video.
1. Scarlatti: Piano Sonata in D minor
Benjamin Grosvenor wowed TV audiences in 2004 when he become the youngest ever winner of the Keyboard category in the BBC Young Musician of the Year competition at just 11.
2. Morton Gould: Boogie-Woogie Etude
3. JS Bach: Partita No. 4, BWV 828
Here Grosvenor performs Bach's Fourth Partita, which also features on Dances.
4. Brahms-Cziffra: Hungarian Dances
In July 2011 Grosvenor made history when he became the youngest ever performer at the BBC Proms, opening the festival with Liszt's Piano Concerto No. 2 and Georges Cziffra's flashy piano transcription of Brahms's Hungarian Dances.
