'This "perambulation", as the liner described it, could hardly fail,’ writes George Pratt in his review of Voces8’s The Purcell Collection in our June issue. ‘Eight beautifully integrated solo voices and the stylish strings, oboes, recorders and continuo of Les Inventions cherry-pick 14 pieces from the best of Purcell.’

Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem was composed for the coronation of William III and Mary II at Westminster in 1689. It opens with a somber instrumental symphony before the entry of the voices, and finishes with a dignified 'Alleluia'.

'Recorded sound, though stereo only, envelops the performers in the spacious warming acoustic of a French church,' concludes Pratt.
