The Tallis Scholars have released a digital recording of Eric Whitacre's new piece, Sainte-Chapelle.

The work, which was specially written for the choir, was premiered on 7 March in St Paul's Cathedral at the launch of the choir's 40th anniversary tour.

The BBC Music Magazine deputy editor, Jeremy Pound, heard the premiere and wrote: 'Whitacre’s Sainte-Chapelle, which was influenced by the composer’s visit to the Parisian building of the title, is altogether more solemn and reflective, building up into an intense climax. This was Whitacre in considerably more angst-ridden form than I’m used to, and none the worse for it.'

The recording was made in the chapel of Merton College, Oxford and is available to download now from iTunes.
