Radio 3 announces 2011 New Generation Artists
Six new members join prestigious scheme
Radio 3 has announced the six new members of its New Generation Artists scheme for 2011-13.
The young musicians are: pianist Christian Ihle Hadland from Norway, Spanish mezzo-soprano Clara Mouriz, Russian pianist Igor Levit (right), British mezzo-soprano Jennifer Johnston, British soprano Ruby Hughes and the Signum Quartet from Germany.
The scheme is in its 12th year and gives young musicians the chance, over two years, to work with BBC Orchestras, to appear in concerts and festivals and to make studio recordings.
Adam Gatehouse, editor of live music at Radio 3, said: 'I am delighted to welcome six new members to Radio 3’s New Generation Artists scheme. These world-class young artists from the UK and abroad will be embarking on an intensive two years of studio recordings, concerts, appearances with orchestras and at festivals, all of which will be broadcast on Radio 3. These are truly the stars of tomorrow.'
Last year’s cohort of New Generation Artists, who remain on the scheme for another year, includes pianist Benjamin Grosvenor, who recently appeared at the First Night of the Proms. His fellow musicians from the 2010-12 scheme will be appearing at the City of London Festival during July. Their performances will be broadcast in Radio 3’s Lunchtime Concert slot, on weekdays at 1pm.
You can watch and listen again to Grosvenor performing Liszt’s Second Piano Concerto on the BBC iplayer.
