First-ever staging of Donizetti’s Anna Bolena
In 2011 soprano Anna Netrebko starred in the first-ever staging of Donizetti’s Anna Bolena at the Lincoln Centre in New York.
She plays the doomed second wife of Henry VIII opposite bass Ildar Abdrazakov’s Henry and tenor Stephen Costello’s Lord Richard Percy. Mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Gubanova plays Anna’s lady-in-waiting and confidante Jane Seymour who becomes the King’s lover and eventually replaces Anna as his wife.
Directed by David McVicar, with musical direction by Marco Armiliato, this production was excellently received.
