First Night of the Proms
Live from the Royal Albert Hall
It's that time of year again - the launch of the BBC Proms!
The piece narrates the lives of Jesus’s disciples and gives an account of the community of the early church and the Pentecost. Although the third part was never written, Elgar had considered The Kingdom as the 'slow movement' in a trilogy that started with The Apostles.
The soloists will be soprano Erin Wall, mezzo-soprano Catherine Wyn-Rogers, tenor Andrew Staples and bass-baritone Christopher Purves.
