Jonathan Nott

On Monday 15 July, Jonathan Nott (right) conducts Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and the Arditti Quartet in Prom 5 at the Royal Albert Hall. Here is another chance to see the concert again, on BBC Four.

On the bill is Mahler’s Fifth Symphony and the UK premiere of Helmut Lachenmann’s Tanzsuite mit Deutschlandlied.

One of Mahler’s best-loved symphonies, the Fifth was written between 1901 and 1902 and contains the famous Adagietto movement, a love letter to his wife Alma, as well as the solo trumpet opening.

The Arditti Quartet is invited to join the orchestra for Lachenmann’s Tanzsuite mit Deutschlandlied, a deeply affecting example of his metallic and transfixing composition style.
