Enjoy tempestuous Beethoven from the Elias String Quartet
Listen to an extract from the acclaimed quartet’s new recording
When reviewing that disc, also a live recording made at the Wigmore Hall in London, critic Roger Nichols said, ‘the players capture beautifully the mix of grace and jokiness in the Mozart, and in the Mendelssohn they apply just enough rubato to give colour and meaning, without ever interrupting the flow.’ He concluded: ‘The final Presto agitato is a tour de force, rightly acclaimed by the audience.’
Here you can listen to an extract from Beethoven’s String Quartet in C minor, Op. 18 No. 4, taken from the Elias’s most recent recording – their first volume of Complete Beethoven String Quartets, which is out next Monday (12 January) on the Wigmore Hall Live label.
This recording will be reviewed in the April 2015 issue of BBC Music Magazine.
