The Academy of Ancient Music (AAM) has announced the launch of its own record label, AAM Records.
The label will closely reflect the ensemble's commitment to historically-informed performance of Baroque and Classical music on period instruments and will give the orchestra full control over the choice of repertoire it records.
Two discs will be released each season, with more regular releases proposed for the future. Music director of the Academy of Ancient Music, Richard Egarr, conducts the first four recordings, and other titles will include contributions from guest conductors and soloists, including mezzo-soprano Sarah Connolly and tenor James Gilchrist.
‘I am so excited about AAM Records,' says Egarr. 'There are many things I would love to record with the AAM, and having our own label will allow us the freedom to explore a wide range of repertoire over the coming years.’
The first recording, to be released in October 2013, will be Birth of the symphony: Handel to Haydn and this will be followed by the 1724 version of JS Bach’s St John Passion in February 2014. Future plans include recordings of Bach’s orchestral suites and the St Matthew Passion.
Releases on AAM Records will also feature extra material including digital content and films.
