The New Generation Artists scheme celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, and has announced the seven artists from across the world that will be involved from 2019 to 2021.

The musicians joining the scheme are US pianist Eric Lu, Italian pianist Alexander Gadjiev, British violist Timothy Ridout, Macedonian mezzo-soprano Ema Nikolovska, Swedish violinist Johan Dalene, the UK-based Consone Quartet and British jazz guitarist Rob Luft.

Over the years, the scheme has helped develop the careers of artists including pianist Igor Levit, percussionist Colin Currie, violinist Janine Jansen and mezzo-soprano Alice Coote.

As part of their new roles as BBC New Generation Artists, the musicians will be given the opportunity to perform and work with the BBC’s orchestras at some of the UK’s major concert halls, perform new commissions, record and collaborate with one another in chamber music. They will each perform in a BBC Lunchtime Concert from Wigmore Hall, all of which are broadcast live on BBC Radio 3.

The NGAs will join the group of 2018-20 artists: tenor Alessandro Fisher, cellist Anatasia Kobekina, the Aris Quartet, pianist Elisabeth Brauss, baritone James Newby and soprano Katharina Konradi.
