BBC Radio 3 will be returning to the World of Music and Dance (WOMAD) festival this year to broadcast live from Charlton Park, Wiltshire.

From 26 July there will be live broadcasts from the Radio 3 stage hosted by regular Radio 3 presenters: World On 3’s Lopa Kothari and Mary Ann Kennedy, World Routes’s Lucy Durán and Late Junction’s Fiona Talkington.

Kicking off the programme on Friday 26 July will be Chris Morphitis and Katina Kangaris who make up Greek band Mavrika and will be playing music that puts a contemporary spin on Rembetika music.

From the Imperial Tiger Orchestra, inspired by Ethiopian music of the time of Haile Selassie, to Roopa Panesar, a sitar player who trained under sitar maestro Ustad Dharambir Singh, this year’s live broadcasts will be a celebration of diversity and up-and-coming musical artists.

Sunday evening sees Scottish folk band Capercaillie perform, marking their 30th anniversary on the Radio 3 stage.

Outside of these broadcasts, the station will also be showcasing highlights from the festival over the following weeks in programmes including Late Junction, World On 3 and World Routes which will also cover exclusive interviews and truck sessions.
