BBC Young Musician woodwind winner announced

The second result of the 2016 competition is in

The winner of the woodwind category final of the BBC Young Musician competition 2016 has been announced as 17-year-old Jess Gillam.

The saxophonist competed against flautists Lucy Driver, Marie Sato and Joanne Lee and recorder player Polly Bartlett. She will now perform in the semi-final alongside the keyboard category finalist Jackie Campbell, as well as three other unannounced category winners.

The final took place at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, and was judged by Dobrinka Tabakova alongside Pamela Thorby and Adam Walker.
