A ship named after Chopin has arrived in London to celebrate the Polish composer's 200th anniversary. The Frederyk Chopin began its journey in Szczecin in Poland, and has already stopped in 17 harbour cities throughout Europe, including Stockholm, Amsterdam and St Malo.

The Frederyk Chopin, which arrived at St Katharine's Pier last Friday, has now moved to Canary Wharf and remains in London until Sunday 12 September, is hosting a programme of concerts and dance performances. Other activities on offer to visitors include building a statue of Chopin, painting pianos and the chance to learn how to dance Poland's national dance, the Polonaise.

The ship is manned by Polish students who won a competition run by the Polish Tourism Organization, the body behind the 'Chopin the Course' project. Their stay in the UK will be completed with an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people dancing the Polonaise at one time, before the boat returns to Poland.
