Glasgow Chamber Choir has received an award of £7,100 from the Celebrate fund towards its Commonwealth Choral Marathon.

Taking place in June 2014, the Marathon will see thirty singers perform five concerts over two days at unusual locations, including Glasgow International Airport and the Tall Ship.

The Marathon celebrates the 2014 Commonwealth Games as well as marking the choir’s 20th anniversary.

New works have been commissioned from Scottish composers, including Rory Boyle and Eddie McGuire, and these will be published in a Glasgow Song Book.

Musical director of Glasgow Chamber Choir Michael Bawtree says: ‘I am delighted that some of Scotland’s most distinguished composers have agreed to write works for our commonwealth Marathon – a unique celebration of both our city and our choir.’

The project aims to reflect Glasgow’s history as an international port as well as promoting its role hosting the 2014 Games.
