A group of musicians have broken the Guinness World Record for the world's biggest orchestra, at Queensland Music Festival.

On Saturday 13 July, over 7,224 musicians joined together to form what was officially the world’s biggest Orchestra. Previously the record was 6,452 musicians, who played together in Vancouver, Canada in 2000.

The group in Queensland was conducted by festival artistic director James Morrison and the musicians performed music including part of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and Queen's song We Will Rock You, specially arranged for the occasion.

The record attempt marked the beginning of the Queensland Music Festival, which runs until 28 July 2013, and takes place in venues across the Australian state. Visit the festival website for more information.
