Jakub Hrůša has been made music director of the Royal Danish Theatre and Royal Danish Opera. The 30-year-old Czech conductor will take over the role from August 2013.

Hrůša was one of 148 applicants for the post and will act as a consultant and artistic advisor before taking up his post in earnest next year.

In a statement, the artistic director of the Royal Danish Opera, Keith Warner said:

‘Jakub stood out from the start as being the person I wished to share my time here with – we share very similar visions of both the artistic level we will aim to achieve and the central role that music and drama must play within any community.’

Hrůša is currently music director for Glyndebourne on Tour and the Prague Philharmonia. He has also worked with orchestras including SWR Symphony Stuttgart, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra and worked on operas at Glyndebourne and the National Theatre in Prague. In January 2011 he conducted the Royal Danish Opera’s production of Musorgsky’s Boris Godunov.
