Conductor Jonathan Nott is to stay at the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra (SO) until 2012, after his contract was extended for three years. The British-born conductor, who initally moved to Germany in 1989 to study conducting and learn the language, has been at the helm of the German orchestra since 2000.

Nott recently recorded all of Schubert’s symphonies with the orchestra for Tudor Records, and began a cycle of Mahler's symphonies. Over the next two years he plans to complete the Mahler cycle on disc, and perform all the symphonies in concert.

And from next year fellow British conductor Robin Ticciati, 26, will join the Bamberg SO as principal guest conductor. After first conducting the ensemble four years ago in a recording for Bavarian Radio, Ticciati has appeared with them regularly, and will take up his new post for the next three years.

‘Within a very short time Ticciati has grown into one of the most interesting young conductors,’ says Wolfgang Fink, the orchestra’s managing director. 'He clearly has a special affinity for the orchestra which is fully reciprocated.'
