The Joseph Joachim International Violin Competition has been won by two musicans – Alexandra Conunova-Dumortier from Moldova and Dami Kim from South Korea.

Each of the winners will be given €50,000 prize money (£40,440) and a three-year loan of a violin made by the Italian luthier Guadagnini. In addition, the pair will both have the opportunity to record a disc for the Naxos label.

No second prize was given but third prize went to Tobias Feldman – who also took both the audience and critics’ prize and a total of €30,000 (£24,270). Fourth prize went to Mo Yang and joint fifth prize was awarded to Bomsori Kim and Airi Suzuki – each were given €8,000 (£6,470) prize money. The six semi-finalists also each received €1,000 (£810).

All of the finalists performed a concerto with the NDR Radiophilharmonie, conducted by Hannu Lintu over two finals on 11 and 12 October before the winners were announced at a ceremony on 13 October. The competition is held every three years and this is its eighth edition.
