Lionel BringuierLionel Bringuier, the 26-year-old conductor, is to be music director at the Tonhalle in Zurich, Switzerland.

The French conductor replaces David Zinman, who has been in post with the Tonhalle Orchestra since 1995.

Bringuier (right), who is currently resident conductor with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and artistic director of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla y León, will take up the post for four years from the 2014-15 season.

Speaking to the LA Times, president of the LA Philharmonic Deborah Borda said: ‘Lionel has been a member of our LA Phil family for six years now and we could not be more thrilled for him. The Tonhalle is a distinguished orchestra with a storied past, and we know that Lionel will bring the same passion and commitment to making great music there as we have experience with him.’

Bringuier will continue to conduct the LA Phil and also has debut appearances with the Leipzig Gewandhaus, Rotterdam Philharmonic and National Orchestra of Spain in his diary over the 2012-13 season.
