LSO St Luke's, home to the London Symphony Orchestra's education programme, will be celebrating its tenth birthday in March with a 12-day festival.

The celebration, based around the theme 'Rites of Passage', will include a performance of Elgar's Nimrod from LSO On Track musicians, who played the work at the Olympics Opening Ceremony; a week of live broadcasts for Radio 3's Lunchtime Concerts and a performance from the Aurora Orchestra and tenor Allan Clayton.

In addition, oud player and extreme vocalist Dhafer Youssef will perform with his band on 28 March.

There will be an LSO Discovery Day on Sunday 24 March, which will provide the opportunity to find out more about the life and music of Brahms with access to LSO rehearsals with Sir Colin Davis and Nikolaj Znaider, and a lecture and performance of Brahms’s Sextet in G with LSO players.

‘Having a home for LSO Discovery and a regular place to research, develop and try-out pioneering new initiatives has made all the difference to the lives of the LSO musicians,' said managing director of the LSO, Kathryn McDowell. ‘As well as on the lives of our neighbours and friends’.

LSO Discovery is the London Symphony Orchestra’s community and music education initiative, which aims to bring its music to people of all ages and backgrounds.

Its musician-led schemes have reached over 60,000 people over 22 years. The programme has fostered the creation of new orchestral works, as well as providing young orchestral musicians with the chance to join its concert season at the Barbican Centre.

The 'Rites of Passage' festival takes place 21 March – 1 April. For more information, visit the LSO's website.
