British conductor Robin Ticciati will take over as principal conductor and music director of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin from September 2017.

The Brit follows in the footsteps of a line of prestigious directors including Lorin Maazel, Riccardo Chailly and Ingo Metzmacher. He will take over from Tugan Sokhiev, who has been with the orchestra since 2012. Sokhiev announced that he would be leaving the post in 2014, shortly after being appointed artistic director of the Bolshoi Theatre, Moscow.

Ticciati is currently in his seventh season as principal conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and music director of Glyndebourne Festival Opera. The British conductor first worked with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin last year.

'The chemistry between Robin Ticciati and our orchestra was great from the outset,' says DSO committee member Matthias Kühnle. 'The joint rehearsal phase and the performance of Bruckner's Fourth Symphony stuck in our memory and gave us the certainty today that we have found the right successor to Tugan Sokhiev.'
