German conductor Michael Boder has been named as the next principal conductor at the Royal Danish Opera and Sven Müller has been appointed artistic director of the company.

The previous principal conductor Jakub Hrůša and artistic director Keith Warner both resigned in January in protest at the company's reduced funding.

'I am extremely pleased and grateful to have been given this unique opportunity to lead such great ensembles that we have in Copenhagen,' said Sven Müller, who has been deputy artistic director at the company since 2008. 'The past six months have been turbulent and have to a great degree drained all our ensembles emotionally. My first task is to restore the confidence that is a prerequisite for all artistic undertaking.'

Newly appointed principal conductor, Michael Boder, said: 'There is the potential to be a very important stage in international respect. It would be wonderful, if people will come to Copenhagen, not only because of the beauty and economic interests of the city, but also because there is important music and opera to be heard.'

Müller will take up the post on 1 June and Boder will start as principal conductor in August.
