Proms Last Night gets cinema broadcast

Live satellite link-up for 12 September finale
This year’s Last Night of the Proms is to be broadcast live in cinemas around the world for the first time. The traditional finale of the eight-week concert season will be beamed by satellite to venues in 15 countries, including Canada, Australia, Norway and Japan. The broadcast will also give audiences the opportunity to experience the event in digital surround sound. ‘The Albert Hall holds around 5,250 people, but this deal will allow fans to be part of the experience no matter where they are in the world,’ says BBC Worldwide Music’s head of commercial affairs Salim Mukaddam to The Telegraph. The initiative is a development to the regional Proms in the Park events, which see the Royal Albert Hall concert broadcast to a network of large outdoor screens across the UK.   The Last Night of the Proms will be broadcast in the UK on BBC Two, BBC HD and BBC Radio 3.
