On Sunday 13 June, Radio 3 will broadcast the BBC’s Big Concert – where 400 BBC musicians from orchestras and choirs around the country will take part in a live relay event – from six cities.

In a day that showcases the best of the BBC’s musical talent, Radio 3 presenters will be on-hand around the country including Sara Mohr-Pietsch, Christopher Cook, Sarah Walker and Petroc Trelawny.

The BBC Philharmonic start the proceedings at 11.30am at St Philip's Church in Salford, with Nicholas Kraemer conducting a programme of Bach Cantatas and a Haydn symphony. This is followed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Jirí Belohlávek in its London Maida Vale home, which highlights the lesser-known Czech composer Josef Bohuslav Foerster. Next up in Glasgow, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra celebrates its 75th year with music by former fan Sibelius and a premier by local composer Sally Beamish.

Meanwhile in Cardiff, the BBC National Orchestra and Chorus of Wales demonstrate conductor Thierry Fischer’s love of French repertoire with Massenet and Ravel. And after heading South West to join the BBC Concert Orchestra in Plymouth – where actor Brian Blessed narrates Paul Patterson’s musical version of Roald Dahl’s Three Little Pigs – then it’s back to St Paul’s Knightsbridge in London for a BBC Singers performance of works specially written for the ensemble in the 1940s by Britten and Tippett.

The day ends in Belfast, with the Ulster Orchestra performing a special commission by Irish composer Ciarán Farrell.
