Robin Ticciati is take up the role of music director of the Glyndebourne Festival from January 2014.

He will be taking over from Vladimir Jurowski, who in 2001 became the festival’s youngest music director at the age of 29.

Ticciati, who will be 31 when he takes up the Glyndebourne post, conducts Mozart's Don Giovanni at this year’s Festival and has previously conducted Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel and Verdi’s Macbeth at the opera venue. He also directed Glyndebourne on Tour from 2007 to 2009.

'From my very first experience of Glyndebourne, I was overwhelmed with the unrivalled opportunities that the environment offered,' Ticciati said. 'I look forward to Glyndebourne becoming my operatic home.'

The general director of Glyndebourne, David Pickard, said he was delighted that Ticciati had accepted the post and added 'I can think of nobody more appropriate to continue Glyndebourne’s long tradition of artistic excellence and innovation.'

Robin Ticciati is currently the principal conductor of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra and will be making his debut at The Metropolitan Opera House in New York later this year.
