ROH2, the Royal Opera House’s dedicated contemporary opera and dance arm, is to close.
Covent Garden will continue to produce contemporary works under the artistic direction of Kaspar Holten for opera and Kevin O’Hare for ballet.
ROH2 was set up in 2001 by Deborah Bull, who ran it as artistic director alongside Alison Duthie. Both women left earlier this year to take up positions with King’s Cultural Partners.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Opera House told The Stage newspaper ‘With Deborah leaving, it felt natural to revisit how the ROH was organised internally. We’ve evolved over the last ten years, and will continue to evolve.’
The venues associated with the ROH2 – the Lindbury Studio Theatre and Clore Studio – will still be used. Any works already commissioned will still be associated with ROH2.
