Something for the Weekend...

A dubstep symphony

Venturing into the wackier end of the classical music spectrum this week, there's this offering from electronic music act, Nero: a Dubstep symphony.

Dubstep is characterized by heavy bass, short repeated clips of drums and melodies, with occasional vocals – not, perhaps, an obvious bed-fellow for the classical symphony.

But nevertheless Nero, an electronic music duo, was commissioned by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra to create a symphony which used elements of the dubstep genre.

They worked on the piece with composer and conductor Joe Duddell to create their symphony which was broadcast on Radio 1 on 6 June. Curious? You can hear - and watch - the results on the BBC Radio 1 website.

Have a good weekend!
